This week, Lawrie makes his way back to Carnoustie to take part in the British Seniors Open, joined by a lineup featuring nine Scots, including the renowned former eight-time European Tour Order of Merit champion, Colin Montgomerie.

He mentions that returning to Carnoustie always brings back memories of the events from 25 years ago.

“It’s always a pleasure to revisit places where you’ve triumphed in tournaments,” he remarked. “No matter who you are, it’s something special.”

“Especially with the current scenery, which closely resembles how it was when I clinched victory here in 1999. The rough is thick, and the tall grass beautifully adorns the mounds and dunes. I’m eager to play here as it always brings joy.”

“I was just 30 when I achieved victory here, which is still relatively young for such a significant win. Typically, players tend to win major tournaments a bit later in their careers.”

“At the moment of victory, you simply focus on your game, but as time progresses, you realize that no one else from Scotland has succeeded since then, and it truly sinks in how monumental it was.”

“In the heat of the moment, you understand that winning The Open is magical and exhilarating, but the full significance doesn’t dawn on you until later, particularly after you’ve played less and witness others striving for that same achievement, yet none have done it.”

“For me, [the British Seniors Open] ranks as the premier senior major because it’s set in our homeland, and it should showcase the finest seniors from around the globe competing here this week. I’d love the chance to outshine them all.”
