Former President Donald Trump criticized Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday, labeling her a “bum” accountable for the surge of migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border during her time in the Biden administration.

Trump’s remarks regarding Harris were made at the Turning Point USA Believers Summit held in West Palm Beach, Florida. This follows Harris’s recent achievement of obtaining enough delegates for the Democratic Party’s leading nomination after President Joe Biden exited the race for re-election, although a formal nomination will not occur until next month’s convention.

“Just three weeks ago, she was referred to as a bum, a failed vice president who’s part of a failed administration with millions crossing the border. They called her the border czar, and now they’re trying to claim she never was,” Trump stated, alluding to recent assertions by various media entities that Harris was never designated as the border czar, despite many of those outlets having previously made that characterization.

“They’re altering the narrative all over the place,” he continued. “They want to erase it because we have the worst border situation in history. Three and a half years ago, we had the best border we’ve ever had.”

In 2021, President Biden appointed Harris to tackle the root causes of significant migration from Central and South America.

Biden stated in March 2021 that Harris was spearheading the initiative to collaborate with Mexico and other Northern Triangle countries—Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador—to address issues contributing to the influx of migrants at the southern border.

Earlier this week, the House approved a resolution criticizing Harris for her role as the border czar regarding the ongoing migration crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border. The resolution was passed by a vote of 220-196, with at least six Democrats joining Republicans in the censure of Harris.

During his speech on Friday, Trump stumbled over Harris’s name. He seemed to have difficulty pronouncing “Harris” and commented that there are various ways to say her first name.

“By the way, there are numerous pronunciations of her name … It doesn’t matter how I say it. I couldn’t care less about mispronouncing it. I really don’t care,” he said. “Some believe I mispronounce it intentionally, but I’ve actually heard it spoken in about seven different ways. There are many pronunciations.”

Moreover, Trump declared that Harris must be defeated in a “land slade,” mistakenly referring to “landslide.”

The former president again asserted that Democrats are attempting to manipulate elections, telling the gathered Christians that by the end of his presidency, voting may not be necessary because “it’ll be fixed” by then, an assertion that Democrats have condemned as fascistic and an attempt to avoid leaving office.

“If you aim to save America, rally your friends, family, and everyone you know to vote,” Trump urged. “Vote early. Vote absentee. Vote on Election Day. I don’t care how it’s done, but you must participate. And again, Christians, it’s crucial that you get out and vote this time.”

Trump reiterated that he appointed three Supreme Court justices—Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett—and that he “will once again nominate steadfast conservative judges who will uphold religious freedom and prevent radical socialist ideologues from rewriting our constitution.”

The Harris campaign labeled Trump’s speech as “bitter” and “strange.”

“Tonight, Donald Trump struggled with his words, insulted the beliefs of Jewish and Catholic Americans, lied about the election yet again, made false statements, bragged about repealing Roe, proposed significant cuts to education funding, and said he intends to appoint more extremist judges. He indicated plans to fill a second Trump term with more individuals who mirror his own criminality, attacked lawful voting, and overall projected an image of someone you wouldn’t want to be seated beside at a restaurant – let alone as President of the United States,” stated James Singer, spokesperson for the Harris campaign.

“America deserves better than the bitter, bizarre, and regressive delusions of a criminal like Donald Trump,” Singer said. “Vice President Kamala Harris represents a vision for America’s future that emphasizes freedom, opportunity, and security.”
