U.S. military forces operating in the Middle East have successfully targeted and destroyed Houthi drones in Yemen within the last 24 hours, officials reported on Friday.

In a separate operation, personnel from U.S. Central Command eliminated three uncrewed Houthi surface vessels that were active off the coast of Yemen, according to CENTCOM.

“These weapons were assessed to pose an urgent threat to U.S. and coalition forces, as well as commercial vessels in the area,” a CENTCOM statement indicated. “These measures were implemented to ensure the safety of navigation and enhance security in international waters.”

U.S. forces have been actively engaging with Iran-backed Houthi drones and militia for several months in response to the group’s attacks on commercial vessels in the Mediterranean Sea. The Houthis began targeting merchant ships as a response to Israel’s military actions against Hamas.

In the previous week, Israel conducted precise strikes against the Houthis after the militant group launched a deadly drone strike on Tel Aviv, which resulted in one Israeli fatality, over ten individuals injured, and significant damage to infrastructure.

The attack occurred in close proximity to the U.S. consulate in Tel Aviv.

“The fire currently raging in Yemen is visible throughout the Middle East,” stated Yoav Gallant, Israel’s Minister of Defense, following the airstrikes in Yemen. “The moment the Houthis harmed an Israeli citizen, we retaliated. We will respond wherever necessary.”
