Scruggs had bested Italy’s Alice Volpi in her semifinal match and aimed to claim her first gold by upsetting Kiefer, but she will have to settle for silver.
With two additional medals, the United States now has a total of 12 medals at the Paris Olympics. This marks the third gold medal for Team USA, with Kiefer joining the men’s swimming 4×100-meter freestyle relay team and swimmer Torri Huske in capturing top honors in France.
Harvey earned the bronze medal by defeating Volpi, 15-12.
This marks Harvey’s initial medal in her fencing career. She previously secured gold in the individual foil category at the 2022 Pan American Fencing Competition and a silver in 2024.
