Senator Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., expressed concern on Sunday that the “failure” of President Biden and Vice President Harris could result in Iran developing a nuclear weapon in the lead-up to the U.S. presidential election.
During his appearance on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” Graham mentioned that the Senate recently received a “stunning” report from the Director of National Intelligence regarding the current state of Iran’s nuclear program.
“My biggest concern is a rapid move towards acquiring a nuclear weapon,” Graham stated. “I’m extremely worried that not only could this open a second front in Israel’s conflict, but they might utilize the next three to four months before our election to advance towards a nuclear weapon. We must put them on alert—this cannot be allowed.”
Earlier this month, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken cautioned that Iran could produce fissile nuclear material in as little as “one or two weeks.”

While Blinken attributed Iran’s accelerated nuclear capabilities to the collapse of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)—commonly referred to as the Iran nuclear deal—Graham placed responsibility on Biden and Harris.
“Biden and Harris have proven to be a significant failure when it comes to managing the ayatollah,” the senator remarked. “They have only empowered him, and now Israel is facing the consequences.”

Israeli officials indicated that the rocket was launched by the Iran-backed terrorist organization Hezbollah. Blinken commented on Sunday that “every indication” pointed to Hezbollah as the source of the rocket fire.
Graham warned that if Iran is not “put on notice” and held responsible for the assaults on Israel by its proxies, Hamas and Hezbollah, such attacks are expected to persist.

“Unless the Iranians perceive that they’re going to face repercussions, and until we start targeting their oil refineries, we’re likely to see more of this aggression from Iran,” Graham cautioned.
