A footballer in Melbourne is in an induced coma after sustaining serious injuries during a match last weekend.
Michael Pisker collided with the legs of an opposing player while running back for the ball during St Kevin’s Old Boys Football Club’s game against Melbourne University in the VAFA on Saturday, July 20.
The game was paused, and he was treated by club medical staff until paramedics arrived.
Initial footage of the incident was available on the league’s website but has been taken down due to its graphic content.
The football community has rallied to support the 26-year-old, raising $120,000 via a GoFundMe campaign to cover Pisker’s medical costs and living expenses during his recovery.

Pisker’s mother, Alexandra, detailed the severity of her son’s injuries, mentioning he experienced ‘two traumas to his head.’
‘Michael is 26 years old and is widely regarded as one of the most skilled players in the league,’ the fundraising page states.

‘Currently, Michael is in an induced coma in the intensive care unit at the Alfred Hospital. The medical staff have provided him with outstanding care, compassion, professionalism, expertise, and love.’
She added that when he wakes up, the family will have to deliver the heartbreaking news that he will not see out of his right eye.
‘Michael faces significant challenges ahead with multiple surgeries to reconstruct and manage the resulting damage to his head and eye,’ the fundraising page continues.
‘Sadly, it has already been confirmed that Michael will not regain vision in his right eye.’
‘We are still determining the extent of surgery and rehabilitation required, which is expected to be extensive. Michael will likely need to take considerable time off from his job as he undergoes intensive rehabilitation.’
‘Michael is deeply loved by his family and friends, and we have initiated this fundraiser to help with the imminent costs. We have been incredibly moved by the generous support and concern for Michael’s situation.’
The SKOBFC president expressed gratitude to club doctor Kim Whelan and senior trainer Maddy McCavana for their immediate care of Pisker after his injury.
