Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., sidestepped inquiries on Sunday during an appearance on “Face the Nation” regarding whether he encouraged President Biden to withdraw from the race in a recent private meeting.
“Senator, during your visit to Delaware on July 13, you met with President Biden. It was a private conversation, and I understand you prefer to keep discussions with the president confidential. However, for historical context, this was a significant meeting as you, the Senate Democratic leader, were discussing the presidential race with the president. For the record, did you in any way suggest to him that he should exit the presidential race on July 13?” CBS’ Robert Costa inquired.
Biden announced his withdrawal from the race on July 21, 2024, and promptly endorsed Vice President Harris to take his place on the ticket.
“Well, first, we should consider President Biden’s accomplishments. He has achieved one of the most remarkable presidencies in recent decades, implementing numerous beneficial policies. From the infrastructure bill and the IRA bill to reducing prescription drug prices for the first time, taking on the NRA effectively, and assisting our veterans with burn pits – his record is impressive. He has consistently done what is best for America, and I have great respect for him and the significant achievements we’ve collaborated on,” Schumer replied.

ADAM SCHIFF CALLS ON BIDEN TO EXIT PRESIDENTIAL RACE AS DEM CONFIDENCE DWINDLES
Costa pressed further, asking about Schumer’s aims during the July 13 meeting.
“Yeah. I’m not going to delve into specifics, but President Biden will leave the presidency with his head held high due to all the wonderful things he has done, prioritizing America above all,” Schumer stated.
According to an ABC News report, Schumer had met with Biden and urged him to step aside from the race.
The New York senator was said to have joined several Democrats, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in advocating for Biden to withdraw.

Biden declared through a letter shared on social media that he would be stepping aside from the race.
“Serving as your president has been the greatest honor of my life,” Biden expressed in his public letter. “While my intention was to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interests of my party and the nation for me to withdraw and concentrate solely on fulfilling the responsibilities of my office for the remainder of my term.”
