- He achieved an Olympic record during the final with an impressive display
Nathan Hales won Team GB’s third gold medal by triumphing in the men’s trap final in shooting on Tuesday afternoon.
Making his Olympic debut, the 28-year-old showcased his talent in the morning heats, advancing to the final while maintaining composure amidst the oppressive heat.
From the outset of the final, he shared the lead and systematically eliminated his competitors.
Out of the six finalists, only three contestants remained with 15 targets left, ensuring Hales a medal alongside China’s Qi Ying and Guatemala’s Jean Pierre Brol Cardenas.
Brol Cardenas was the first of the final trio to falter, and Hales, exhibiting confidence, secured his position by hitting 48 out of 50 targets, establishing a new Olympic record.

The previous Olympic record stood at 43, but Hales surpassed it effortlessly, delivering an exceptional performance on this grand platform.
Hales fell just one short of the world record he set last year in Lonato, Italy.
With this achievement, he joins the GB eventing team and cross-country cyclist Tom Pidcock as the only gold medallists from the nation in France thus far.
In total, Team GB has amassed 11 medals—three gold, five silver, and three bronze.
