The men’s Olympic triathlon was postponed just hours before the event was meant to begin on Tuesday. A 3:30 AM inspection of the Seine revealed pollution levels were still too high for athletes to swim safely. Organizers stated that heavy rain on Friday and Saturday necessitated the date change for health reasons. The men’s race has been reorganized for 10:45 AM Wednesday, following the women’s race that kicks off at 8 AM. Yet athletes such as Team GB’s Alex Yee and Beth Potter, who are favorites for their respective events, face uncertainty as they await possible water quality improvements. Forecasts also predict potential thunder and lightning for Wednesday, raising additional concerns.
