In a report by a watchdog group, it was alleged that a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) training session in the Pentagon’s education wing recommended a book that asserts Thanksgiving “perpetuates the power of White supremacy.”
OpenTheBooks, a government watchdog, published a July report claiming that the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) is indoctrinating military-connected children with a “radical DEI curriculum.” The DoD schools, which serve over 60,000 children, are located both in the U.S. and worldwide.
The organization submitted a Freedom of Information Act request for “DEI personal development content provided to DoDEA employees” and obtained a slide from a presentation advocating for the book “Coaching for Equity.” This book reportedly contains anti-American and anti-Western views.
“DoDEA staff were shown the book Coaching for Equity, which critiques capitalism, ‘patriarchy,’ customs such as Thanksgiving, and even America’s identity as a nation,” OpenTheBooks stated in its report.

For instance, the book contends that Thanksgiving is linked to “White supremacy” and contributes to a “distortion of truth” surrounding U.S. history.
“In the U.S., we often forget that we are on lands taken through intentionally infected smallpox blankets, broken treaties, and outright genocide,” the text reads. “Our selective memory and the deliberate distortion of truth have led to the macabre. Consider Thanksgiving, typically celebrated with a feast and family gatherings… History has been sanitized, and the horrors of colonialism have been omitted. This sustains the power of White supremacy.”
Another portion of the book asserts, “The United States was not founded on principles of equity and justice.”

Furthermore, it critiques the U.S. for its capitalist society.
“Concepts of White supremacy emerged alongside the growth of colonization and capitalism,” the book claims. “Capitalism, remember, fostered the idea of White superiority, deeming people of color as existing to serve their masters.”

Several Republican lawmakers have responded to the report, sending a letter to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, requesting the DoD to halt its claimed indoctrination efforts.
SCHOOL DISTRICT DEI TRAINER SAYS AMERICAN FLAG BECOMING ‘HATE’ SYMBOL, EMPLOYEES RESISTING CRT SHOULD BE FIRED

“DoDEA staffers were shown a book titled Coaching for Equity, which criticizes capitalism, ‘patriarchy,’ traditions such as Thanksgiving, and America’s existence as a nation,” the watchdog group claimed.
“These books are overtly racist towards countless Americans and undermine the very founding of America,” declared Reps. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., and Jim Banks, R-Ind., in a letter to Austin on Monday. “Radical woke ideology is infiltrating the education of our service members’ children. Instead of resolving this issue, you are only worsening it. Our servicemen and women should not have to choose between serving their country or safeguarding their children.”
The Pentagon responded to Fox News Digital, clarifying that the documents from the FOIA request were part of a “voluntary book study.”
“The book ‘Coaching for Equity’ was utilized in a voluntary book study. This book is not included in the DoDEA-wide educator professional learning or professional development initiatives,” stated the DoD.

“It is disgraceful and untenable that while our servicemen and women risk their lives for our country, their children are being taught that America is a racist nation unworthy of defense,” Banks remarked.
Stefanik emphasized, “Our service members encounter numerous obstacles, and guaranteeing that their children receive a quality patriotic education should not be one of them.”

Fox News Digital previously interviewed DoDEA teachers who expressed frustration with being inundated with DEI teachings.
“If they wanted me to indoctrinate the students about our history being… racist, they should have informed me before I was hired, because I wouldn’t have agreed to that. It simply isn’t true,” one teacher stated.
“I describe it as a social Marxist approach,” another commented.
