FIRST ON FOX: Rep. Val Hoyle, D-Ore., avoided a reporter’s inquiry regarding Vice President Kamala Harris’s performance as “border czar,” asserting instead that she was never in that role and attributing the current border situation to former President Trump.
“I believe Donald Trump hindered our ability to establish effective border policy,” Hoyle stated on Thursday when questioned about Harris’s effectiveness in her role.
“I’m inquiring about Kamala Harris, the vice president,” Hoyle was prompted once more.
“I’m discussing Donald Trump interrupting our border policy initiatives,” Hoyle replied. “What caused Donald Trump to block that?”

Hoyle is among a growing number of House Democrats seeking re-election this November who have either skirted inquiries about Harris’s border record or complied with the narrative that she was never the border czar, even though several media outlets have referred to her by that title over the years.
Harris was appointed by Biden in 2021 to assist in addressing border issues, which Democrats, along with the White House, are now trying to distance themselves from as Harris appears to be the likely Democratic presidential nominee.
“Val Hoyle’s misguided efforts to alter history show she is beholden to Border Czar Kamala Harris, yet fearful of Oregonians demanding accountability for the border crisis,” National Republican Congressional Committee spokesperson Ben Petersen told Fox News Digital.

“Hoyle’s misguided perspectives threaten the safety of Oregon families amidst rising crime and fentanyl issues.”
Hoyle is campaigning for re-election in Oregon’s 4th Congressional District, where she secured victory by 7.5 points in 2022. The Cook Political Report labels her race as “likely Democrat.”
Fox News Digital reached out to Hoyle’s office for a comment but did not receive a response.
