Caitlin Clark maintains she is not ‘disappointed’ about missing the Olympics, even as she watches her WNBA peers compete in Paris from her couch.

Clark, a prominent figure in women’s basketball, was notably omitted from the Team USA roster for the Games in France this summer.

The top draft pick has taken a brief respite during her rookie WNBA season, utilizing the time to read, unwind, and observe the competition from a distance.

While she has expressed that competing in the Olympics would be a ‘dream,’ she views this exclusion as a catalyst for motivation as she looks towards the Los Angeles Games in 2028.

When asked if she felt ‘disappointed’ about her absence in Paris, Clark responded: ‘No, I think this break has been beneficial.’

‘It’s an incredible opportunity, one that comes around once every four years. So, I wouldn’t say I’m particularly disappointed; instead, it gives you something to strive for, to dream about.

‘In four years, you could find yourself there, and that time goes by quickly. Your college years show you that you need to start putting in the effort now if you wish to achieve that dream in four years. That’s my mindset: work hard and hopefully, you’ll be there.’

The Indiana Fever player, now back in practice, added: ‘I’ve caught a fair bit of the games. I watched the USA women’s team yesterday – that was enjoyable. I also followed the USA men’s team. I’m trying to catch as much as possible… perhaps coach Christie (Sides) should cancel practice so I can watch more!’

Though she is missing, Team USA continues on into its second group game on Thursday against Belgium after a decisive 102-76 victory over Japan.

Clark has returned to the practice court with the Fever this week after enjoying a much-needed short break – her first real vacation since her sophomore year at college.

‘The refresh from every perspective has been really beneficial and something that I needed,’ she noted. ‘I read a book, I wasn’t glued to my phone, which felt great. I just took time to relax – it was definitely unusual,’ she commented.

Clark confided that she felt ‘exhausted’ – mentally, emotionally, and physically – following a whirlwind rookie season. She also took advantage of the sunny weather.

‘I’m still quite pale, still lacking in sunlight,’ she laughed.

‘But I’m aiming to play more golf during this break; I haven’t had the chance yet this year. I have new clubs I want to try out and see how they perform.’
