Sen. JD Vance, the vice presidential nominee, stated that he was ready for the flood of negative media attention that followed former President Trump’s selection of him as a running mate.
In a conversation with NBC News, Vance expressed confidence that Trump does not regret choosing him.
“No,” Vance replied. “I anticipated that there would be a few days of favorable coverage, but then they would pivot immediately to scrutinize everything I’ve ever said.”
“To be on the national ticket and have this opportunity to lead, you have to accept the criticism, so I was somewhat prepared for that,” he continued. “I believe those who have profited and gained power by damaging the country will not surrender their positions easily.”

Vance further mentioned that he aims to focus on border policies if elected, essentially reversing the initiatives spearheaded by Vice President Kamala Harris, who was assigned to tackle illegal immigration in 2021.

“It all begins with strength — strong borders, strong families, a strong economy, and strong presidential leadership,” Vance stated during a recent rally. “Among Kamala Harris’s many shortcomings, the most significant is her leaving America exposed and vulnerable. The entire world is now aware that she has concealed Joe Biden’s deteriorating mental faculties for years.”

“Our adversaries,” Vance said, “are eagerly awaiting our missteps, and the global situation is chaotic due to inadequate American leadership.”
Vance also defended remarks that Democrats have leveraged against him. Notably, he addressed a past interview where he labeled Harris and other Democratic women as “childless cat ladies.” He clarified his comments to NBC but did not recant or apologize.

“What I was addressing, and continue to address, is a specific irrationality in American leadership that leads to absurd statements like suggesting people shouldn’t have children due to climate change risks,” he explained to the outlet. “Climate change may indeed be an issue, but it shouldn’t deter individuals from starting families. This perspective is seriously harmful, even destructive.”

“I will continue to call this out, even though I’m sure Democrats will twist my words,” he said. “I maintain that the essence of what I stated is entirely justifiable.”

In recent campaign events, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., defended Vance against accusations of being anti-woman. Alongside top Trump advisor Jason Miller, they have accompanied Vance as he travels to rallies nationwide.
“I’m here today in response to the vicious attacks against JD Vance claiming he is anti-woman,” Luna stated during a rally in Nevada. “Can you imagine? This is coming from a party that can’t even define what a woman is.”
