The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has initiated an inquiry into claims of misconduct within its secretariat.
According to a statement released by Caf, external, an external law firm or an international auditing and professional services firm will investigate the alleged violation of its governance and auditing protocols.
Following the investigation, a detailed report will be presented to Caf’s executive committee.
While Caf’s secretary general Veron Mosengo-Omba was not explicitly named in the statement, he confirmed via social media that he is under investigation.
“My efforts to reform and regularize this institution, which has faced disrespect at times, are being undermined by an unexpected report full of grievances that lack documented evidence,” he posted on X on Wednesday.
“The forthcoming independent investigation will reveal the inaccuracies and sources of this report.”
Mosengo-Omba has served as Caf’s secretary general for three years, having previously worked with the global governing body Fifa.
A native of DR Congo, he also possesses Swiss citizenship.
In a statement on Thursday, Caf president Patrice Motsepe emphasized: “Caf has a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, breaches of internal governance, auditing and transparency regulations, as well as violations of Caf and Fifa statutes and regulations.
“We are committed to upholding best practices in global governance, auditing, transparency, and ethics, having established an internal governance and compliance department.
“This department was responsible for bringing the alleged breach of Caf’s internal audit and governance regulations to our notice.”
Motsepe further stated that prompt actions will be taken should any improper conduct or behavior be identified.
