Freddie Freeman, first baseman for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and his wife Chelsea shared an update about their son Maximus following his recent hospitalization.
In an earlier Instagram post, Chelsea informed that Max had been taken to the hospital after facing undisclosed health issues since the All-Star break. She mentioned that Freddie joined the family in the emergency room after completing a game against the San Francisco Giants.
On Thursday, the couple shared a heartfelt post featuring Max along with a detailed update on his health and recovery. They revealed the diagnosis and asked their followers to keep them in their thoughts and prayers.
‘Last Friday, Max experienced a rapid decline and went into full body paralysis,’ they stated. ‘We consider ourselves very fortunate to have gotten him to the hospital in time for lung support.’
‘Freddie was in Houston during this time and took the first available flight back home. After several examinations, they diagnosed Max with a severe case of Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare neurological disorder particularly uncommon in children.’

Freddie Freeman and wife Chelsea provided an update on their son Max’s health condition.
Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is an illness that can be triggered by an acute infection and affects the nervous system. It typically begins with weakness and tingling in the lower body, and may lead to paralysis as the illness progresses, as seen with Max.
Each year, there are fewer than 20,000 recorded cases of GBS in the U.S., and it can be treated with blood treatments.
‘These past days have been incredibly challenging and frightening for us. Maximus is a remarkable child and he is fighting with tremendous strength,’ they continued. ‘This will be a journey towards recovery, but we have faith that he will emerge completely healed. We are amazed by the progress he has shown in the last 48 hours.’
‘Maximus was able to be taken off his breathing tube and removed from the ventilator yesterday, which is a significant milestone for us. We believe in the power of prayer and are witnessing a miracle in his recovery.’

Chelsea previously mentioned that Maximus had difficulty standing and walking.

The three-year-old was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome.

Chelsea and Freddie asked their social media followers for prayers for their family.

The Dodgers are leading the National League West with a 63-46 record.
‘We kindly ask that you continue to keep Maximus and our family in your prayers. We are incredibly grateful for and have truly felt your support.’
As Freddie attends to his family, the Dodgers maintain their top position in the National League West with a record of 63-46. The team is on the road until August 4, when they conclude their series against the Oakland Athletics.
