Boxing champion Amy Broadhurst was among the female fighters who defeated Algerian Imane Khelif, a competitor at the center of a gender debate during the Paris Olympics, and she commented on her former rival on Wednesday.
Broadhurst, hailing from Ireland, secured a gold medal at the 2022 International Boxing Association (IBA) Women’s World Championships after defeating Khelif in the finals. Khelif was later disqualified from the 2023 tournament, with the IBA president stating it was “proven” that Khelif had “XY chromosomes.”

The IBA announced on Wednesday that Khelif had “competitive advantages over other female competitors.”
Broadhurst expressed her thoughts on the matter as well.
“A lot of people are messaging me about Imane Khelif,” she posted on X. “Personally, I don’t think she has done anything to ‘cheat.’
“I believe it’s simply how she was born, and that’s beyond her control. The fact that she has lost to nine females before speaks volumes.”

On Thursday, Broadhurst sought her followers’ opinions regarding her victory over Khelif in 2022, prompting her to post the footage on her social media.
“If it turns out this is a man, I would be appalled to have shared the ring with them, along with many others,” Broadhurst responded to a comment. “Competing against a man is absolutely unacceptable. However, as of now, the true facts remain unknown.”
