• Manchester United rallied to defeat Real Betis 3-2 in San Diego, California
  • Marcus Rashford and Antony both exited the match due to injuries
  • The Red Devils will face Liverpool in their final match of the US pre-season tour on Sunday

Manchester United remains optimistic that the injuries sustained by Marcus Rashford and Antony during their victory over Real Betis in San Diego are not severe.

Rashford left the field limping after suffering a right ankle injury following a tough challenge from Sergi Altimira, while Antony departed just 23 minutes after entering as a substitute.

Both players were seen signing autographs for fans after the match and left the Snapdragon Stadium walking relatively well, with evaluations underway to determine their availability for the game against Liverpool in Columbia, South Carolina on Sunday morning.

With Rasmus Hojlund sidelined for six weeks and new £36.5m striker Joshua Zirkzee only just starting his pre-season training with the club, manager Erik ten Hag is particularly reliant on Rashford being fit for the upcoming season opener.

United will take on Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley on August 10, before beginning their Premier League journey against Fulham at Old Trafford just six days later.

Ten Hag also has the option to employ a false nine formation, as Jadon Sancho showcased against Real Betis.

He stated: ‘We need to evaluate next week to see where we stand, as the players are in very different phases. Jadon is in pre-season, engaged in the tour, while Joshua has recently participated in the Euros, taken a break, and commenced training this week.

So, next week we need to assess the players and select a team capable of winning against Manchester City.’
