  • The defender has been rumored to be on the radar of several top European clubs in recent seasons

Newcastle is currently engaged in direct discussions with Crystal Palace regarding a transfer for England international Marc Guehi.

According to Mail Sport, sporting director Paul Mitchell is overseeing the negotiations for Newcastle, which could be the club’s most significant deal of the summer.

On the Palace side, co-owner Steve Parish is expected to take the lead on this matter.

Guehi has two years remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park and is considering a move this summer for the right opportunity.

Newcastle is said to have made an initial verbal offer, but the specific amount they are willing to pay is still unclear at this early stage of discussions.

The center-back emerged as one of England’s key players this summer as the national team advanced to the Euro 2024 final.

Several top clubs have expressed interest in Guehi, but Newcastle is the first to take definitive action.

Manchester City is also monitoring the situation, although it is believed they would need to sell players before making a move.

Earlier this summer, Mail Sport reported that Palace would only consider offers of £65m or more for Guehi, which could complicate negotiations.

Should Newcastle and Palace reach an agreement, it will then be up to Guehi to decide whether he wants to move to St James’ Park.

Newcastle has already strengthened their squad this summer by adding Lloyd Kelly, John Ruddy, and Odysseas Vlachodimos. Lewis Hall’s loan has been made permanent, and they have also secured a deal for William Osula from Sheffield United.

Earlier this summer, Newcastle came close to enhancing their defense with a deal for Joe Gomez, which was part of negotiations involving Liverpool regarding the transfer of Anthony Gordon.

Newcastle’s inquiry into Gomez started when they initially discussed selling either Anthony Gordon or Alexander Isak to Liverpool for financial fair play reasons in early June.

Liverpool dismissed the initial £100m price tags, and as Mail Sport exclusively reported, Newcastle expressed interest in Quansah, but that inquiry was declined. Subsequently, Newcastle offered around £80m for Gordon.

That proposal was again turned down, but as Amanda Staveley and Newcastle’s ownership sought financial fair play solutions, Mail Sport sources revealed that chief executive Darren Eales returned with a new proposal to buy Gomez for £45m while selling Gordon to Liverpool for £75m.

Meanwhile, Palace has already strengthened their defense by signing Chadi Radi from Real Betis ahead of Oliver Glasner’s first complete season in charge.
