Simone Biles has responded to critics of Jonathan Owens after fans expressed their discontent over the NFL player’s decision to wear her Olympic gold medal.
Biles contributed to the USA’s first gymnastics gold medal win at the Paris Games on Tuesday, alongside her teammates Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, and Jade Carey, defeating Italy and Brazil in the team final.
In the aftermath of her victory, fans took to social media to voice their frustration as Owens, Biles’ husband for the past two years, was spotted wearing her medal later that evening.
Celebrating his wife’s achievement in a post, the NFL player posed beside her with the gold medal around his neck, writing: ‘Witnessing history every time you step on the mat – Congrats baby on becoming the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history!!!! Just wow!!!! 8 of them!!!!! So thankful I was there to see it.’
Several users were quick to criticize Owens for what they deemed ‘inappropriate’ behavior, including content creator Kiera Breaugh, who urged him to ‘take it off’ in a TikTok video that garnered 2.5 million views.

In response, Biles defended her husband in the comments section, chastising Breaugh and others for their negativity, calling them ‘so f****ng miserable’.
‘The crazy thing is, I put my medal on every single one of my family members and took pictures,’ she said.
‘So don’t ever make assumptions.’
Biles further stated, ‘Like y’all are so f****ng miserable. Leave us alone.’
Owens is currently in Paris with Biles after receiving time off from practice with the Bears to support her during the games.
In an expression of gratitude, Biles commented on his photo together: ‘means the world you’re here.’
Despite his heartfelt message, Owens faced backlash from fans for wearing the medal.
One user remarked: ‘You do realize that is not your medal… right?’
Another commented: ‘But why are you wearing it? How strange.’
A third user added, ‘I knew he was going to wear her medal like he won it.’

But fans were quick to criticize the Chicago Bears safety’s ‘odd’ behavior in the comments.
One user even stated: ‘Give the medal back baby, that’s not yours.’
However, Owens was not only critiqued for wearing the medal.
Fans quickly recalled a past interview from 2023, where he claimed he didn’t know who Biles was when they first matched on a dating app.
He had insisted that he was the ‘catch’ in the relationship, saying: ‘I didn’t know who she was at the time, but the first thing that I saw was that she just had a bunch of [Instagram] followers. So in my mind, I’m like, “OK, she’s got to be good.”
Fans reminded him of his comments as he wore his wife’s Olympic gold medal this week.
