Her performance earned her a title in the event which many expected Charlotte Dujardin would have dominated had she not withdrawn from the Games unexpectedly.
The controversy surrounding Dujardin, who was seen using a whip on a horse during training four years ago, has led to significant scrutiny of the sport and calls for its removal from the Olympic program.
Fry anxiously awaited confirmation of her bronze medal as Denmark’s Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour was the last competitor to ride, finishing in fifth place.
Riding Glamourdale, Fry achieved a score of 88.971%, placing third, while Germany’s Jessica von Bredow-Werndl took gold and teammate Isabell Werth received silver.
