Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi reflected on Sunday morning that President Biden might be worthy of a spot on Mount Rushmore, particularly after his decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.
During an interview, CBS journalist Lesley Stahl inquired about reports suggesting Pelosi played a role in urging Biden to exit the presidential ticket following a challenging debate against former President Trump.
Pelosi dismissed the notion that she spearheaded any movement to remove Biden, instead praising him and noting he was at “the top of his game” before deciding to leave the race. She indicated that this decision could justify Biden’s inclusion on Mount Rushmore.

“He was in a good place to make whatever decision – the top of his game,” Pelosi stated. “Such a consequential President of the United States, a Mount Rushmore kind of President.”
Stahl responded, “Are you truly suggesting he belongs on Mount Rushmore? Lincoln and Joe Biden?”
“Well, you’ve got Teddy Roosevelt up there, and he’s great,” Pelosi replied. “I’m not saying to take him down. But you can certainly add Biden.”
Pelosi reiterated that she wasn’t involved in any pressure campaign regarding Biden’s candidacy.
“No, I wasn’t leading any pressure [campaign],” Pelosi told CBS. “Let me clarify what I didn’t do: I didn’t call anyone. Not a single person. I can always say to him, ‘I never called anybody.’

In the days prior to Biden’s announcement not to run again, several reports suggested Pelosi was pushing him to withdraw out of fear he might lose to Trump.
Nonetheless, Pelosi maintained her public support for Biden, stating that the decision rested solely with him, despite the President’s insistence that he would seek re-election.

“It’s up to the president to determine whether he will run,” Pelosi stated during an MSNBC interview. “We’re all encouraging him to make that decision as the clock is ticking. I think he has overwhelming support within the caucus, but it’s not my place to say. I’m no longer the head of the caucus, but he is well-loved, respected, and people are eager for him to make that determination—not me.”
