- Team GB just missed out on a medal in the men’s 4x100m medley relay
- Despite an outstanding performance from Adam Peaty, Britain ended up finishing fourth
- China claimed the gold in Paris, marking the first defeat of the USA in this event
Team GB placed fourth in the men’s 4x100m medley relay on Sunday evening, narrowly missing the chance to medal.
In the final swimming event for men during the games in Paris, Oliver Morgan was responsible for giving his team a solid start, amidst expectations that the USA and China would compete for gold.
Adam Peaty, who had been unwell in the days leading up to the event and missed the mixed relay, managed a remarkable swim after a stellar takeover, keeping Team GB competitive.
Peaty’s performance in the breaststroke temporarily positioned Britain in second place after 200 meters, but Duncan Scott and Matthew Williams could not maintain their advantage as the enthusiastic home crowd rallied behind France for a third-place finish.
The contest was thrilling right until the end, with a spectacular finish from Pan Zhanle helping China secure the gold with a remarkable time of 3:27.46.

The USA had to settle for silver with a time of 3:28.01, marking the first defeat for the country in this event’s history.
The only other occasion when the USA did not win the 4x100m medley relay since its inception in 1960 was during the 1980 games in the Soviet Union, which they boycotted.
