Former President Trump has backed a second GOP candidate in the Washington 4th Congressional district primary, aiming to unseat Rep. Dan Newhouse, one of the ten Republicans who voted to impeach him in 2021 after the Capitol protests on January 6.
In a post on Truth Social prior to Tuesday’s vote, Trump stated, “Tiffany Smiley is a remarkable America First candidate vying to represent the great people of Washington’s 4th Congressional District!”
“Similarly, Jerrod Sessler, whom I have endorsed before, would be fantastic, championing the same values that Tiffany and I desire for our nation,” continued Trump. “Both are opposing a weak and ineffective RINO, Dan Newhouse, who foolishly voted to impeach me for no valid reason and now deeply regrets that decision. Most of the others who voted for impeachment are long gone, which is a positive development for America….”
“Newhouse must go, and Republicans should rally behind a WINNER to secure a significant victory this November. Thus, I offer my Complete and Total Endorsement to both Tiffany Smiley and Jerrod Kessler – EACH ONE OF THEM WILL DO AN EXCEPTIONAL JOB, AND NEVER DISAPPOINT YOU!” he added.

Trump referred to Smiley as a “Triage Nurse, Veterans Advocate, Army Wife, Loving Mother, and a Strong Supporter of our Movement to Make America Great Again,” who “will be an INCREDIBLE Fighter in Congress dedicated to combating inflation, fostering economic growth, securing our borders, enhancing our military and veterans support, and defending our ever-threatened Second Amendment.”
Newhouse, who is running for his sixth term, told KEPR in May that “[s]ome people remain very opposed to me,” following his vote to impeach Trump on January 13, 2021, “but I must say, many individuals will approach me and say, ‘Hey Dan, while I may disagree with that one vote, I support you in all your other endeavors; I’ve moved past that.'”
