Democratic superdelegates applauded Vice President Harris for selecting Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her partner in the presidential race.

“Like Vice President Harris, Governor @Tim_Walz is dedicated to ensuring that government serves everyone—not just some. This commitment makes him an exceptional governor, and it will make him an even more effective vice president. Michelle and I are thrilled for Tim, Gwen, their family, and our nation,” former President Obama shared on X, along with his complete remarks regarding the selection.

Superdelegates, often referred to as automatic delegates, embody the Democratic establishment, which includes members of the Democratic National Committee, every elected Democrat in the House and Senate, governors, and all past Democratic presidents, vice presidents, Senate leaders, House speakers, minority leaders, and DNC chairs, as laid out in the Delegate Selection Rules for the 2024 Democratic National Convention.

‘HUGE GAIN’: CONSERVATIVES CELEBRATE HARRIS’ CHOICE OF MINNESOTA GOV TIM WALZ AS RUNNING MATE

“Governor Tim Walz is a proven leader who embodies the heart and work ethic of the Midwest in his public service,” said Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, who was also vying for the second spot on the ticket, in a statement on Tuesday. “His steadfast dedication to enhancing the lives of working families and supporting the most vulnerable makes me excited about him being the Democratic Party’s nominee for Vice President. Tim is not only a friend but also a fellow Midwestern governor, and it has been an honor serving alongside him. Vice President Kamala Harris has once again shown her leadership by selecting someone our party and the country can take pride in.”

Reports emerged Tuesday morning suggesting that Harris was set to announce Walz as her running mate, in lieu of other prominent contestants, such as Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly.

“I am honored to share that I’ve invited @Tim_Walz to join me as my running mate,” Harris posted on X late Tuesday morning. “As a governor, coach, educator, and veteran, he has advocated for working families like his. I’m thrilled to have him on the team. Now, let’s get to work!”

As Democratic leaders commended the decision, Republicans expressed satisfaction with the move, preparing for what they characterize as a “far-left” ticket.

“Harris aligns with the far left and chooses Walz. Thank you, Kamala! Governor Tim Walz is a fantasy for the radical Left,” posted Sen. Lindsey Graham on X.

“It’s no surprise that [Harris] chose Tim Walz as her running mate—he reflects the same harmful economic, open-border, and lenient crime policies that Harris has imposed on our nation for the past four years,” wrote House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., on X.

“Walz is simply a figurehead aiming to transform Minnesota to resemble Harris’s California, solidifying this ticket’s complete acceptance of a radical, America-last agenda.”

“Tim Walz is an exemplary choice for Kamala Harris. He allowed BLM protesters, arsonists, and looters to wreak havoc in his state, and she supported contributions to the bail fund for those who faced arrest,” wrote Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., on X.

Walz has a political history that includes serving in the U.S. House from 2007 until 2019, before being elected as Minnesota’s governor in 2018 and re-elected in 2022.
