Paraguayan swimming sensation Luana Alonso made headlines after she chose to get an Olympic rings tattoo near her bikini line ahead of the Paris Games, and subsequently announced her retirement from the sport at just 20 years old after not qualifying for a medal.
After being eliminated from the pool, Alonso reportedly remained in the Olympic Village, which seemingly led to further complications.

On Monday, Alonso departed the village following reports of creating an “inappropriate atmosphere.”
“Her presence is creating an inappropriate atmosphere within Team Paraguay,” commented Paraguayan Olympic Committee president Larissa Schaerer in a statement, as reported by The Sun. “We appreciate that she acted as directed and chose not to spend the night in the Athletes’ Village of her own accord.”
Alonso later clarified on her Instagram Stories that she was not expelled from the Olympic Village or any other location and mentioned she would refrain from commenting on the allegations but would not allow misinformation to circulate.

Multiple reports suggested that Alonso’s choice to explore some Paris attractions instead of swimming with her teammates upset management officials.
Reports from Paraguayan media and The Daily Mail indicated that her visit to Disneyland Paris left her supervisors feeling disrespected, and her choice of “revealing outfits” allegedly became a distraction.
Alonso is an NCAA Division 1 swimmer at SMU and holds several national records for Paraguay in butterfly events. She completed her heat at the Paris Games with a time of 1:03.09.
Ultimately, she announced her retirement following the event.

“Swimming has taught me to dream, to fight, to persevere, sacrifice, and to be disciplined. I devoted part of my life to it, and I cherish the incredible experiences I had, the friends I made from around the world, and the unique opportunities it brought me. This isn’t a farewell, it’s a see you soon,” she expressed in an Instagram post.
