Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey criticized Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles after their respectful gesture towards Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade during the floor final podium ceremony.
Shortly after the event concluded on Monday, Humphrey, 28, expressed his thoughts on X about the two Team USA gymnasts who acknowledged Andrade after she captured her first gold medal of the summer.
Biles and Chiles took second and third place in this event, respectively. Andrade overcame three ACL injuries in her career before finally winning in Paris. She now boasts six Olympic medals, including two golds (Andrade also won the vault final in Tokyo in 2021).
Humphrey stated, ‘This is literally disgusting,’ referencing SportsCenter’s coverage of the moment when Biles and Chiles honored Andrade.
He later faced considerable backlash for his comments.

Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey criticized the sportsmanlike gesture on social media
‘Yeah, because giving someone recognition who has returned from THREE ACL tears to remain a top gymnast is disgusting,’ a user replied to Humphrey’s post on X.
Another Olympic viewer added: ‘Heaven forbid athletes show respect to a fellow athlete who has endured multiple torn ACLs.’
One commenter suggested Humphrey should ‘reach a final and win something before commenting.’
‘This is truly beautiful,’ another user expressed in response to Humphrey’s statement.
The three-time Pro Bowler later commented that he was receiving significant criticism from Brazilian fans on social media, seemingly unaware that they communicate in Portuguese.
He shared, ‘I’m lowkey getting roasted right now. I think I’m being cussed out in Portuguese on Instagram lol.’

Humphrey faced backlash for his remarks on X, particularly from fans of the Olympics in Brazil
Biles concluded her 2024 Olympic journey with four medals, three of which were gold, bringing her total to 11 Olympic medals.
She also commended Andrade for elevating the standard in gymnastics during the Olympics.
‘I’ve never faced such a close competitor,’ Biles mentioned about competing against the Brazilian athlete. ‘This undoubtedly kept me on my toes and highlighted the best in me. I’m excited and proud to compete alongside her.’
‘I’ve never experienced this level of pressure before. Thank you, Rebeca.’
