Tom Craig, an Australian player in men’s field hockey, has reportedly been arrested in Paris during the Olympics on suspicion of purchasing cocaine.
The Australian Olympic Committee confirmed that a member of the men’s field hockey team has been detained, though they did not disclose the player’s identity. According to a police source cited by Reuters, the detained player is Craig.

The Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed to Reuters that an Australian player has been detained due to allegations of purchasing cocaine.
As reported by the Herald Sun in Australia, Craig left a team event on Tuesday evening and was arrested approximately 15 minutes later.
“The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) has acknowledged that a member of the Australian hockey team is in custody after their arrest in Paris on August 6th. No charges have been filed yet,” stated Australian officials, according to the Herald Sun.

The Herald Sun indicated that Craig might just receive a fine due to French regulations, which impose fines for possession of less than five grams of a narcotic.
Craig has been part of the Australian national field hockey team since 2013, contributing to both junior and senior squads. He played 19 times for the junior team from 2013 to 2016 and has made 101 appearances for the senior team since 2014, scoring 36 international goals.
He was instrumental in the team’s silver medal achievement at the 2022 Tokyo Olympics.
