Jamaica’s squad for the Copa America featured a strong representation from the English Football League.
Among the Reggae Boyz were Coventry City pair Kasey Palmer and Joel Latibeaudiere, Wes Harding from Millwall, Di’Shon Bernard of Sheffield Wednesday, and Charlton’s Michael Hector.
However, we’ll focus on Hector’s 19-year-old teammate, Karoy Anderson – interestingly, his middle name is Zidane.
Until the start of last season, the midfielder had not made an EFL appearance and had spent the beginning of 2023 on loan at National League club Aldershot Town, where he appeared five times.
By summer, he had cemented his place in the Addicks’ starting eleven and received a call-up for the Copa America after debuting for Jamaica last October.
He featured in matches against Ecuador and Venezuela as Jamaica unfortunately lost all three of their group stage encounters.
Additionally, Anderson participated in Jamaica’s World Cup qualifying victory over the Dominican Republic in June and made his first start shortly after in a 3-2 triumph against Dominica.
