Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has expressed skepticism regarding the proposal for a new public holiday to honor Australia’s remarkable Olympic gold medal achievements.
During a Thursday morning interview, he was asked about the possibility of a day off to commemorate the nation’s extraordinary success at the Paris Olympics.
Sunrise host Matt Shirvington, an athlete from the Sydney 2000 Games, inquired if a national public holiday could be a possibility, suggesting it might even replace Australia Day.
However, the Labor leader’s remarks may bring disappointment to many workers across the nation.
‘I believe such days off are matters to be discussed with your employer,’ Albanese stated during the program.
He continued, ‘Many Australians are likely feeling quite exhausted after the past weeks, having been so engaged with our athletes.’
Australia’s athletes have achieved a historic Olympic milestone, securing 18 gold, 12 silver, and 11 bronze medals, bringing the total medal count to 41 as of Thursday morning.
