Joanna Gaines discovered more about her eldest son’s college life while helping him settle into his new apartment this week.
The former HGTV personality posted a collection of photos and videos on her Instagram story, featuring a clip where she zooms in on a device she initially thought was just a playful game.
“Classic ring toss for some good old-fashioned fun,” she wrote in the video caption, only for her son to correct her with, “Mom, this is actually a drinking game.”
The virtual tour continued, showcasing a refrigerator containing just a bottle of ranch dressing, which was captioned, “College apartment move-in day.”

The decor of the room suggested the skilled eye of an interior designer, as every detail was beautifully arranged.
Along with Drake, Joanna and her husband Chip have four other children: Ella, 17, Duke, 16, Emmie, 14, and Crew, 6. They gained prominence through HGTV’s home renovation series, “Fixer Upper,” and have since launched their own lifestyle magazine, a range of home goods, and even a television network. Their projects include cookbooks, home design references, and children’s literature.

Joanna cleverly placed one of her books on her son’s shelf, humorously noting she “snuck that in for aesthetic purposes.”
She even managed to weave in her son’s passion for baseball, displaying a famous Babe Ruth quote on the wall: “Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.”

“Drake going to college really refocuses your attention on Crew, who’s the youngest,” Chip shared with People. “You realize — and it feels unbelievable when you’re holding a one-year-old — that ‘This time will fly by.’
He elaborated on how this realization encouraged him to “focus on little Crew” and to adopt a mindset as if Crew would be going off to college soon.
The couple recently marked their 20th wedding anniversary, revealing to People in November 2023 that they have evolved throughout their two decades together.
