Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, confronted Vice President Kamala Harris regarding her reluctance to answer reporters’ inquiries while both of their planes were stationed at a Wisconsin airport on Wednesday.

Vance, who serves as the running mate for former President Trump, mentioned to reporters at Chippewa Valley Regional Airport that he was keen to get a closer look at Air Force Two because it will be “my plane in a few months.”

The Republican expressed concern that Harris’ press entourage “might feel a bit isolated” due to her lack of responses to their inquiries.

“Hey, everyone. How’s it going?” Vance addressed the group as he approached them. “I wanted to check out my future plane, but I also intended to greet the Vice President and ask her why Kamala Harris chooses… why does she opt not to respond to media questions?”

“And I also considered that the press group trailing her might feel a bit neglected,” he continued. “I, at least, have enough regard for you all, and for the American people you represent, to come and engage with you and respond to questions. So I thought that her reporters might actually appreciate that too.”

Vance characterized the moment as “a little bit of fun.”

“I had some fun with it. I don’t think the Vice President acknowledged me as she departed, but I’m glad I did it,” he reflected. “And I’m pleased to be here in Wisconsin, genuinely attempting to persuade people to vote for us instead of delivering another scripted speech.”

Vance later referred to the encounter while addressing employees at Wollard International, a manufacturing firm, that afternoon.

“We’ve enjoyed a good day,” Vance shared with the audience. “We actually spotted the Vice President’s plane on the tarmac. We landed around the same time she did, and I went over there because I thought it might be interesting to check out this plane that’s set to be mine in a few months, as long as we all do our part, and I believe we will.

“But primarily, I wanted to go and greet the journalists traveling with the Vice President because I presumed they might be feeling lonely since Kamala Harris doesn’t take any questions.”

Ammar Moussa, the rapid response director for Harris’ campaign, later criticized Vance’s actions as “odd” in a post on X.

“Just to clarify: JD Vance is traveling across the country tailing Vice President Harris,” Moussa wrote. “He approached her plane today because he simply wants to chat. And now he’s soliciting her for a debate?”

“Ummm, this is becoming awkward,” he added.
