Egyptian fencer Nada Hafez disclosed that she was seven months pregnant when she achieved a surprising victory over Elizabeth Tartakovsky of the United States, allowing her to progress to the round of 16 in the Olympics.
The 26-year-old secured her first win 15-13 in the women’s individual sabre event at the Grand Palais on Monday before being eliminated by South Korea’s Jeon Hayoung.
The athlete expressed her emotions after the impressive victory and later took to social media to share the incredible news.
‘What you see as two athletes on the podium was actually three! It included me, my opponent, and our little soon-to-arrive baby!’ she posted on Instagram.
‘I’m making this post to share the immense pride I feel for advancing to the round of 16… this particular Olympics is different. I am a three-time Olympian, but this time, I carry a little Olympian with me!’
