Ana Carolina Vieira has been sent home by Brazil from the Paris Olympics on Sunday due to a violation of protocol.
According to the Brazilian Swimming Federation, they notified the Brazilian Olympic Committee that athletes Vieira and Gabriel Santos left the Olympic Village without proper authorization. Santos received a warning, whereas Vieira was dismissed from the games.

Officials reported that Vieira responded to the violation “disrespectfully and aggressively.”
“We’re not here for leisure or a vacation,” stated Brazilian swim team leader Gustavo Otsuka to Reuters. “We’re representing Brazil, for the 200 million taxpayers who support us. This is serious business. Her response to express her dissatisfaction concerning the relay formation was entirely inappropriate.”

“This was the point at which we decided to bring this matter before the disciplinary committee, have discussions, and take suitable action. We discovered the situation mainly through social media postings.”

In a video shared on her Instagram, Vieira mentioned that she left many of her belongings in the Olympic Village and hasn’t been able to contact anyone.
She is contemplating possible legal action.

Swimming World noted that both Vieira and Santos had already completed their events at the Olympics. Vieira’s team placed 12th in the 400-meter relay, while Santos’ team finished 10th in the men’s relay.
