Noni Madueke expresses optimism, stating that “everything is going to be fine” when Enzo Fernandez reenters Chelsea’s lineup, despite ongoing disciplinary issues related to alleged racism.
Midfielder Fernandez is expected to return to the squad on Monday, 29 July, following accusations from team-mate Wesley Fofana regarding his alleged involvement in “uninhibited racism.”
The French Football Federation has expressed shock at footage revealing what it termed a “racist and discriminatory” chant sung by players after Argentina’s Copa America victory.
This song features lyrics that question the heritage of black and mixed-race players in France.
Fernandez has since offered a direct apology to his Chelsea colleagues, six of whom are of African descent, and has also apologized publicly, while the club has initiated an internal disciplinary process.
Fifa, the global governing body for football, has also launched an investigation into the matter.
Madueke, who played in the 2-2 draw against Wrexham during the first pre-season match of Chelsea’s new manager Enzo Maresca, believes the situation will be resolved within the team.
“This is a matter amongst us players,” stated Madueke, 22. “Enzo will rejoin his team, and everything will turn out well.”
