A group of three Cuban American House Republicans is likening President Biden to some of the most infamous autocrats in Latin America due to his proposal aimed at reforming the Supreme Court.
Florida GOP Representatives Maria Salazar, Mario Diaz-Balart, and Carlos Gimenez shared a video earlier this week asserting that Biden’s plan aligns with tactics employed by former Venezuelan leader Hugo Chávez and current President Nicolás Maduro, whose recent election victory was largely condemned by the global community as illegitimate.
Salazar labeled Biden’s proposal as “outrageous” and argued that it “contradicts the system, the American exceptionalism, that we all cherish.”

“Historically, we’ve witnessed this repeatedly. When someone, for political motives, attempts to modify institutions – the Supreme Court, which has been vital in upholding the rule of law and democracy in this nation,” stated Diaz-Balart.
“This is extremely perilous, unacceptable, and represents a genuine threat to democracy and the freedoms that we value in the United States.”
Gimenez added, “A glaring example of a threat to democracy occurred yesterday when the Maduro regime annulled an election and is currently striving to maintain power.”
“What was the initial action taken by Hugo Chávez when he assumed the presidency 24 years ago? He restructured the Supreme Court of Venezuela, enabling his own legal maneuvering,” continued Gimenez. “Altering the judicial system is one method to cling to power, rendering this very dangerous for our national security, for our safety, and for the integrity of democracy here in the United States.”

Salazar took a jab at Democrats who claim former President Trump poses a threat to democracy, stating, “The President of the United States is claiming he wants to alter democracy. It’s not President Trump, but President Biden. Thus, we must exercise caution, as any changes to the Supreme Court impacts the very heart of the American system.”
Fox News Digital reached out to the White House for a response.
Biden outlined his vision for a binding code of ethics, a constitutional amendment to limit presidential immunity, and term limits for Supreme Court justices in an op-ed published in the Washington Post on Monday.
Republicans largely ridiculed the proposal, while Biden’s Democratic supporters, who have advocated for similar or more radical reforms for the Supreme Court, praised the initiative.

“Egregious ethical lapses and growing politicization demonstrate that SCOTUS is in disarray – and that reform is critically needed to restore the public’s trust in the Court’s integrity,” tweeted Rep. Don Beyer, D-Va., who has introduced related legislation.

However, House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., indicated that such changes would not be pursued by a Republican-led House.
“This proposal is the inevitable outcome of the Biden-Harris Administration and congressional Democrats’ ongoing attempts to undermine the Supreme Court. Their intentions to expand and manipulate the Court will soon resurface,” Johnson asserted on Monday. “This reckless initiative from the Biden-Harris Administration is destined for failure in the House.”
