The U.S. clocked in at 5:49.03, while New Zealand followed closely with a time of 5:49.88 to secure silver. Great Britain claimed bronze with a finishing time of 5:52.42.

The last occasion the U.S. men secured gold in this event was in 1960, with Dan Ayrault, Ted Nash, John Sayre, and Rusty Wailes finishing first at the Rome Olympics.
This is also the first medal for the U.S. in rowing since the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games.
