Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy is opening up about his cancer prevention journey with the public.

At 47 years old, Portnoy documented a colonoscopy he underwent on July 31 across his social media platforms.

On July 29, he announced in a video on X, formerly known as Twitter, that he was gearing up for the procedure in Boston, playfully referring to it as part of the “Dave is getting old checklist.”

Prior to starting his fasting and preparation, Portnoy joked about enjoying “seven f***in’ dinners from Giacomo’s.”

Despite his apprehension about the procedure, he underscored the significance of screening for men, asserting, “You gotta do it.”

In the video, Portnoy remarked that colon cancer “is the second leading cause of death in men.” He added, “It can be treated if detected early.”

Portnoy has teamed up with the nonprofit organization Lead From Behind, based in Washington, D.C., to help raise awareness regarding colorectal cancer.

“As a captain, it’s my responsibility to lead the ship,” he mentioned.

The day before his procedure, Portnoy humorously tweeted, “I’m starving. May not make it.”

The following morning at 5:48 a.m., he posted, “Rise and shine, it’s colonoscopy time!”

Upon arriving at the facility, he shared a video expressing his frustration that no one was there to check him in, even after he was told to arrive an hour early.

At 7:18 a.m., once checked in and in a gown, he posted a selfie with the caption, “Locked and loaded.”

The recovery appeared seamless as his next update was a brief video showing him feeling a bit loopy from the anesthetic.

Later that day, he shared images of his “refill meal” following the colonoscopy.

In June, he disclosed that he was diagnosed with skin cancer, which was surgically removed from his neck.

Fox News Digital reached out to both Portnoy and Lead From Behind for further comment.

Portnoy has been candid about his health struggles in the past.

On his podcast, “The BFFs Pod,” he shared in June that he had been diagnosed with skin cancer, which was surgically excised from his neck.

The skin cancer was attributed to “lying in the sun all day without sunscreen,” Portnoy explained.

“I consulted a doctor, underwent a skin check, and after scraping it, one of the biopsies came back cancerous; it had to be removed,” he noted.

Portnoy later stated on X that the cancer diagnosis “wasn’t the severe kind, thank goodness.”

Public figures have also shared their colonoscopy experiences, with journalist Katie Couric famously undergoing her first on-air in 1997 to promote awareness after her husband’s death from the disease.

In 2021, updates from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommended that adults start regular screenings for colorectal cancer at age 45.
