Everton has secured Denmark international Jesper Lindstrøm on a season-long loan from Napoli. The arrangement for the attacking midfielder comes with an option for a permanent transfer for €22.5m (£19m) next summer.
Lindstrøm, 24, caught Everton’s attention prior to his move to Napoli for €30m from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer. He enjoyed two successful seasons in the Bundesliga, playing a pivotal role in Eintracht’s Europa League victory in 2022 and participating in the Champions League the following year. However, he faced challenges in Italy, as Napoli went through a difficult season. The former Serie A champions will receive a €2.5m loan fee from Everton, who will assume all of Lindstrøm’s salary.
The former Brøndby winger, who has earned 16 caps, stated: “I’m a fast player with good technique and a powerful shot, so I believe I can add speed to counterattacks and play in various positions – as a No 10 or a winger. I enjoy scoring goals, providing assists, and creating opportunities. I hope to achieve that here – I’m confident that I can.”
He further added: “I feel that the experiences I’ve gathered so far have prepared me for this moment. I’ve played in different leagues, experienced international football, and competed in the Champions League and Europa League. I believe I’m ready for this. This season is my chance to get back on track. I see this as a great match for me, and I’m eager to show why I deserve to stay.”
Lindstrøm is Everton’s fourth signing of the summer, joining Aston Villa midfielder Tim Iroegbunam, Marseille forward Iliman Ndiaye, and Jack Harrison, who returns on loan from Leeds. His acquisition, along with Ndiaye, hints at a possible shift in strategy from manager Sean Dyche, who often expressed frustration over his team’s inefficiency last season.
Dyche commented on Lindstrøm: “He is driven and keen to succeed with us, which is a promising starting point as we aim to enhance our attacking productivity.”
Crystal Palace are set to confirm the signing of Ismaïla Sarr after finalizing a €15m (£12.7m) agreement with Marseille. The Senegal forward, who has piqued Palace’s interest since his time at Rennes, is currently in London to undergo a medical before signing a four-year contract.
Sarr became Watford’s record signing in 2019 when he transferred from Rennes for approximately £27m and moved to Marseille last year. Palace’s initial offer was declined last week, but they acted swiftly to secure the 25-year-old in a bid to replace Michael Olise, who transferred to Bayern Munich last month.
