Actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus, known for her role in “Veep,” is expected to participate in the Democratic National Convention and plans to be “particularly active” in the effort to elect Kamala Harris as president, according to a recent interview released on Sunday.
The Times of London interviewed Louis-Dreyfus about her forthcoming projects and discussed the surge in popularity of her comedy series “Veep” following Vice President Harris’s status as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.
“Veep,” which ran on HBO from 2012 to 2019, featured Louis-Dreyfus as the bumbling fictional Vice President Selina Meyer. In recent years, comparisons between the character and Harris have gained traction, with critics pointing out the VP’s supposed tendency for “word salads.”
The similarities are bound to persist, as the report highlighted Louis-Dreyfus’s intention to support Harris’s campaign.

“There will likely be even more confusion between Meyer and Harris now that Louis-Dreyfus has indicated she ‘will be particularly active’ in Harris’s campaign. After our interview, she is set to film a commercial informing Americans overseas on how to vote. Will she attend the Democratic National Convention in Chicago later this month? She pauses, cautious not to give away spoilers. ‘I probably will be, yes,’ she eventually confirms,” reported The Times of London.
Fox News Digital reached out to the DNC for a comment.
Previously, Louis-Dreyfus hosted the last night of the 2020 DNC, which was held virtually. Her performance faced criticism from conservative commentators.
While she is pleased to be associated with Harris, Louis-Dreyfus attempts to separate the vice president from her fictional counterpart, arguing that many of the comparisons stem from sexism.

“Let me clarify,” Louis-Dreyfus remarked. “If Selina gave Kamala any advice, she’d be wise to ignore it. I believe Kamala is so brilliant that she wouldn’t take that call.”
“Female candidates face more scrutiny,” she continued. “That’s the reality, and we embraced it to our comedic benefit. There’s an episode where a character suggests Selina start a speech with ‘As a woman,’ and she responds, ‘I can’t identify as a woman! People can’t know that! Men dislike it, and women who dislike women are probably the majority.’ This became a significant topic of humor for us.”
Nevertheless, “Veep” creator Armando Iannucci also dismissed the comparisons between Louis-Dreyfus’s character and Harris.

“Selina Meyer is not Kamala Harris,” Iannucci stated to The Hollywood Reporter. “When we created Veep, no specific person inspired the character…it was never based on anyone.”
“It’s great that Veep is being rediscovered, but I wouldn’t want anyone to think that Kamala Harris resembles Selina Meyer,” he added.

Following President Biden’s withdrawal from the race, viewership for the series saw a 353% jump for its first season on HBO Max, as reported by Luminate’s Streaming Viewership data.
