Former President Trump shared his thoughts on Wednesday morning about Minnesota Governor Tim Walz being selected as Kamala Harris’ running mate, expressing that he “could not be more thrilled” by what he described as the “shocking pick.”
“He’s a very, very liberal man, and it’s a shocking choice. I couldn’t be more thrilled,” Trump remarked during an exclusive interview on “Fox & Friends.”
2024 AD WARS: TRUMP, HARRIS RACE TO DEFINE VICE PRESIDENT
Trump recounted one of the few times he had interacted with Walz, noting that Walz reached out to him during the pandemic when his residence was surrounded by anti-lockdown demonstrators.
“They had only one guard—perhaps at the mansion or his residence,” he relayed. “He called me and I asked, ‘What do you want me to do about it?’ I was in the White House. He requested that I indicate he was a good person, and I did. I said, ‘He’s a good person. I hope everything goes well.’ And everyone took down their flags and left.”
“But they lowered the American flags and their MAGA flags and departed. There were thousands of people,” he continued.
The former president cautioned that Walz is even more extreme than Harris on critical issues like immigration and crime, with concerns that the Harris-Walz ticket could represent the most leftist pairing in the nation’s history.
“If you examine his track record with no borders, no security, allowing everyone in, he’s worse than they are,” he said. “No one realized how far-left she was, but he’s a more astute version of her, to be frank.”
“There has never been a ticket like this,” he added. “This is a ticket that seeks to rapidly push this country towards communism. We want no security, no anything. He strongly supports everything related to transgender issues and is not aligned with where the nation stands on these matters.”
MEET KAMALA HARRIS’ RUNNING MATE WHO CALLED REPUBLICANS ‘WEIRD PEOPLE’
Harris made the announcement on Tuesday, revealing her choice of Walz as her vice presidential running mate, just hours before they held their first joint public appearance at a campaign rally in Philadelphia.
“I am proud to announce that I’ve chosen @Tim_Walz to be my running mate,” Harris shared on X. “As a governor, a coach, a teacher, and a veteran, he’s made significant contributions to working families just like his.”
The selection of 60-year-old Walz was not surprising, as speculation about his candidacy had been in circulation for the two weeks following Harris’ ascent as the party’s frontrunner.
“This is a shocking choice, and I find it very insulting to Jewish people,” Trump remarked. “It is also demeaning to those who value security. I consider it an affront to anything associated with making America great again.”
Walz, who is a former congressman, is currently in his second term as governor of Minnesota, a state that has consistently voted Democratic in presidential elections for many years, but which the Trump campaign aims to flip in this election cycle.
