- Alysha Koloi has advanced to the semifinals in Paris
- The Queenslander is participating in the 3m springboard event
Australian Olympic diver Alysha Koloi has faced a barrage of distressing sexist remarks after simply sharing a photo from her competition at the Paris Games.
The 22-year-old participated in the three-metre springboard event in France, making it through to the semifinals after ranking 16th in the preliminaries.
On Thursday, she shared a nostalgic photo showcasing her competing at a meet in Canada, captioned ‘next step’, which unfortunately attracted a flood of inappropriate sexist comments.
Comments such as, ‘Next step make an OnlyFans account’, ‘I’d prefer swimming with you’, and ‘wipe me down’ were among the more mild reactions to her post.
Other responses completely disregarded Koloi’s athletic achievements, which include a gold medal at the World Aquatic Championships in February, focusing instead on her appearance.
‘I’m actually a big fan of whatever sport you compete in,’ one user commented.
‘I’ve always loved this sport. What is it by the way?’ another inquired.
‘Which sport are you participating in? I’m eager to watch,’ remarked a third commenter.

Koloi, a gold medalist at this year’s World Aquatic Championships in February, was undeterred by ‘one little mistake’ as she progressed through her preliminaries in Paris this week.
Daily Mail Australia opted not to share numerous other replies to her post.
Koloi’s 16th-place finish in Paris could have been significantly better were it not for a minor error during her fourth dive.
‘I’m actually quite proud of my performance,’ she said in an interview with News Corp following her prelims.
‘I had one little mistake, but I’m not let down by my consistency whatsoever.
‘I’m proud of how I conducted myself and really thrilled to have made it to the semifinals.’
If the 22-year-old can replicate the form she showed at the World Championships in Qatar this year, a medal in Paris may be within reach.
She clinched the one-metre springboard title after taking the lead with the fourth of her five dives at the competition, coincidentally, the dominant Chinese team was not competing as they focused on the Games in France.
Hailing from Brisbane, Koloi also secured fifth place in the synchronized 3m springboard event at the World Aquatics Diving World Cup in 2023 and is a former gymnast.
