Vice President Kamala Harris is making strides in several crucial battleground states, which are expected to play a pivotal role in the outcome of the 2024 presidential election.
According to election analysts at the Cook Political Report and the Center for Politics, recent polling averages have shifted in Harris’ direction by approximately 3 points. In particular, polls in three states have favored Democrats, with Georgia transitioning from a “lean Republican” to a “toss-up” status, while Minnesota and New Hampshire have moved from “lean Democratic” to “likely Democratic.”
Harris has significantly narrowed the gap with former President Trump since President Biden stepped out of the race, with several polls indicating she is now leading Trump in the general election.
Democratic enthusiasm has soared since Harris was named the party’s nominee, although many political analysts believe the initial excitement may soon fade. Harris is already encountering substantial criticism for her lack of press transparency, having refrained from taking questions from journalists in the 18 days following Biden’s withdrawal.

She has been active on the campaign trail, attended various events, and made informal remarks to reporters at times, but has not conducted a formal press conference or comprehensive interview since Biden’s exit.
Additionally, she did not attend the National Association of Black Journalists’ convention in Chicago, an event where Trump recently made headlines with a charged Q&A session, though she may consider a future appearance with the organization.

This week, she grabbed headlines by selecting Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate, yet neither have faced formal questioning in interviews or press conferences. This has caught the attention of GOP vice-presidential candidate, Sen. JD Vance from Ohio.

Vance criticized the media for their lack of pressure on Harris. During a rally in Detroit, he urged reporters to “show a bit of self-awareness” and challenged Harris to “act like a presidential candidate” by addressing them directly.
